Mickey Mouse and Minnie starred {first | early on |in their first movie together in the short Plane Crazy, was first shown on May 15, 1928. The short was co-directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. Iwerks was also the top animator for this short, and reportedly spent six weeks working on it. It is said, Iwerks was the top Cartoonist for all Disney short released in 1928 and 1929. Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising also aided Disney in the early years. Although they were signing their contracts with Charles Mintz, but he was still in the process of forming his new studio and so for the time being they were still employed by Disney. This short would be the final movie they animated under this somewhat awkward situation.
