Disneys Mickey and Minnie Mouse starred {first | early on |in their first debuted in the funny Plane Crazy, was first shown on May 15, 1928. The cartoon was co-directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. Iwerks was also thefirst animator for this short, and reportedly spent six weeks working on it. In fact, Iwerks was the first animator for all of Disneys short released in 1928 and 1929. Mainly Harman and Ising also assisted Disney in the early years. Although they were signing their contracts with Charles Mintz, but he was still in the process of forming his new studio and so for the time being they were still working for and employed by Disney. This cartoon would be the last they animated under this somewhat awkward situation.
