Mickey Mouse and the lovely Minnie Mouse starred {first | early on |in their first debuted in the cartoon Plane Crazy, which was released on May 15, 1928. The movie was co-directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. Iwerks was also themain animator for this short, and reportedly spent six weeks working on it. In fact, Iwerks was the top Cartoonist for every Disney short released in 1928 and 1929. Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising also aided Walt Disney in the early years. Although they were signing their contracts with Charles Mintz, but he was still in the process of forming his new studio and so for the time being they were still working for and employed by Walt Disney . This cartoon would be the last cartoon they animated under this somewhat awkward situation.
