Mickey and Minnie starred {first | early on |in their first debuted in the film Plane Crazy, which was released on May 15, 1928. The movie was co-directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. Iwerks was also thefirst animator for this short, and reportedly spent six weeks working on it. It is said, Iwerks was the chief Artist for everyWalt Disney short released in 1928 and 1929. Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising also helped Disney in the early years. They had already signed their contracts with Charles Mintz, but he was still in the process of forming his new studio and so for the time being they were still working for and employed by Disney. This cartoon would be the last cartoon they animated under this somewhat awkward situation.
